Today is Saturday, which means, of course, that tomorrow is Sunday. These days mean much more to me than just being the weekend. Saturdays and Sundays usually start with Coffee Time with my daughter, Sara. Coffee Time is the evolution of Snuggle Time. Snuggle Time began many years ago when Sara was very little. Back then she and I started and ended virtually every day sitting together in our big recliner. We would talk about the events of the day or read stories or just watch television. It was a bonding experience that continues to this day. I look forward to this time tremendously.

We continue to search for the right coffee, especially since Starbucks discontinued their Gold Coast blend, which was our favorite. In reality, though, the coffee is the least important aspect of these events. What I really cherish is spending the time together. She hasn’t actually sat on my lap in years. Still, we sit in our respective chairs a few feet apart and savor our ritual. We still talk about all kinds of things big and small. We often watch Meet The Press and CBS Sunday Morning. Both of those shows stimulate good conversations. We share similar points of view on many subjects , so those talks flow freely. I like that.

I greatly enjoy these opportunities with both of my offspring, but the chances with my son, Michael don’t happen as often. They are both brilliant, funny, creative people who teach me so much. They keep me sharp on many topics. An old man needs that kind of mental exercise.

Coffee Time is something I look forward to all week. Sara hasn’t lived at home with us for many years, but she comes over almost every weekend, even though she is now a happily married woman. Her husband knew this was part of the deal when he signed on. I appreciate his patient contribution.

Tomorrow we we will get together again just as we have done hundreds of times before. She will bring me coffee and I will savor every sip and cherish every moment. This is the stuff that makes life so worth living.
