About the Creator

The seeds of my interest in writing were planted way back in the 11th grade at Henry Ford High School by a rather unconventional teacher named Russell B. de Beauclair. His manner of teaching wasn’t for everyone but, for me, his class was life-changing. He instilled in me a love of words and an appreciation for the music of language. His focus on poetry showed me that words could be arranged in a way that would not only convey meaning, but also stir the emotions, and simply sound beautiful to the ear. Another major benefit of that class was learning the craft of thinking. Mr. de Beauclair also spent a lot of time having free-flowing discussions that encouraged us to look at things from multiple angles and in varying lights. It was marvelous training for seeing life differently. The entire year served to ignite my desire to write. After high school, the urgencies of surviving everyday life pushed me into finding a means of support that didn’t fit with the impracticality of writing. The writer within was locked away and a more “normal” path was followed. The futility of such a “common sense” approach would become more and more evident as the years passed. From time to time, the dormant urgings would emerge and I would write a few columns for a local paper. I also have written a couple of stories for my children, and I have collaborated on several un-produced screenplays over the years. In essence, I have dabbled at writing for about five decades. It has often been frustrating, and even occasionally maddening to fight the yearnings that never would completely go away. The time has now come, though, for those seeds planted so long ago to sprout and bear fruit. The lessons I learned so long ago in that English class have stood the test of time. The music of the words still stirs me, and the value of seeing things with a bit of a twist seems more valuable than ever in a world that gets weirder by the day. Russell B. de Beauclair may have passed from this world a long time ago, but the creature to whom he gave life is just now beginning to truly find life. This should be a lot of fun.
